Winter is a favorite season of mine. The time of year to curl up with a good book and entertain family with cozy meals. I prefer spicy red blends during the coldest months. Just in time for Christmas, these three favorites from Pearmund Cellars are robust reds that pair well with your holiday ham or stand alone with your favorite novel by the fire.

2016 Ameritage Red Table Wine

This is a red wine blend that goes well with holiday ham or a cranberry and brie puff pastry. Cherry and vanilla on the nose with tasting notes of cherry, oak, clove, and nutmeg. Smooth on the palate. You can read a more detailed tasting article and recipe pairing here.

Black Ops Red Blend

Eggplant purple in color, this is a robust and complex bottle of wine with woodsy notes of dark fruit mingled with mushroom, ending with a black pepper finish. Delicious with a slow simmered roast or beef Wellington. $42

Virginia Heritage Blend

A collaboration of sixteen Virginia wineries to make an extraordinary blend. This wine received accolades from Wine Spectator. Described by Wine Spectator as plush, having dark plum aromas and notes of black pepper, cocoa, black olive, tobacco, and clove. This is an excellent bottle to enjoy over dinner or give as a gift. $59
